The Pequot War (1636-1637) was the first protracted engagement between English colonists and American Indians in New England. The infamous Pequot Swamp Fight, was the last major battle and occurred in Southport in 1637.

Since 2007, The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center has been identifying and preserving historical sites associated with the Pequot War. Learn about the latest research on this project and the archaeological work on the battlefields in Groton and in Old Saybrook.
