The program, “Happy Birthday Richard Wagner!” will feature a second half of music exclusively from Richard Wagner operas to celebrate the 200th year of his birth. Opening the concert will be Celebration, by British wind composer Philip Sparke. The opening fanfare of Celebration is a moment that can only be interpreted as the heralding of great openings and in this case appropriately welcomes in the CT Symphonic Winds 27th season. Other pieces in the first half of music are Genesis by Vince Gassi, Equus by Eric Whitacre and the Triumphal March from ‘Aida’ by Giuseppe Verdi who also celebrates the 200th year of his birth in 2013.
