Introduction To Xeriscaping Your Home

Nov 19, 2013
06:30 PM

Tired of mowing, fertilizing, and watering your lawn? There is another way that is more ecologically sound and some of your neighbors are already doing it. This talk will present the landscape design method of "xeriscaping".

Xeriscapes are designed landscapes that utilize drought tolerant plants and efficient irrigation systems. We will discuss plant species, design aesthetics, soil science, and irrigation options. Both local and international precedents will be discussed. In addition, we will cover the history of the xeriscaping movement and why it is important today. Aimed specifically at residential properties, the presentation will be approximately 45 minutes with an extended question and answer period.

Speaker: Bryan Quinn, RLA (CT, VT, CLARB) of One Nature, LLC. Bryan is the founder and principal of One Nature, LLC. He is an environmental ecologist, and landscape architect (licensed in CT & VT) dedicated to the development of solutions that connect people with their environment. He has taught and lectured at numerous academic institutions and is currently an Adjunct Instructor at the Pratt Institute and Rhode Island School of Design. Bryan is also an accomplished landscape artist whose work can be seen at bryanquinn.org.
