Pianist Prodigy Alexander Beyer!

From Mozart to Beethoven, read about 20 year old Fairfield resident and sensational pianist, Alexander Beyer

It doesn’t get any better than this!  At just 20 years old, Fairfield resident Alexander Beyer, is ‘sensational with formidable technique’ according to the Hartford Courant, and he performs in a vast array of concerts, both nationally and internationally.  Alex has performed locally, as a soloist with the Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury and Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra’s.

Alex started playing the piano at four years of age under the tutelage of his mother (an instructor) as a young boy and then with Yoshie Akimoto of Wilton, for many years thereafter. “In my early teen years I discovered that it was something I really wanted to do seriously and not just as a hobby,” said Alex. So he started performing “in competitions and started doing concerto’s with orchestras and I think that was a big help to my ambition.”  By 2009 (14 y/o) Alex was participating in ‘serious competitions’ and was performing with symphony’s. Alex’s exceptional abilities and 6-8 hours per day of practice have not gone unnoticed.

Accolades include;

Alex has earned many accolades including first prize from the Renee Fischer Competition and the MTNA State and Regional Competitions, was a finalist in the 2012 Gina Bachauer International Competition, a 2011 MTNA National finalist and prize winner on the 2010 PianoArts Competition, received the Jeniam Foundation Scholarship award from the Stamford Symphony in 2011 and was a winner of the NEC Piano Honors Competition, allowing him a Jordan Hall debut in 2014, he was also a 2012 US Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

And that’s not all!  This high achieving young man is currently a rising sophomore in the Harvard/New England Conservatory dual degree program.  Alex is studying ‘Statistics’ at Harvard and is studying the piano with Russell Sherman and Wha Kyung Byun. He has recently played in master classes for John Perry, Jeremy Denk, Menahem Pressler and Kirill Gerstein.  During the summer months, Alex attends Music Festivals both in the U.S. and abroad and is collaborating with premier conductors, in addition to performing in the Baryshnikov Arts Center, Paul hall, Stamford Palace Theater, Weill Recital Hall, the New World Center, Woolsey Hall and the Gusman Center.

“I’m delaying a career decision by doing the dual degree program because I’m not ready to decide one way or the other yet, “continued Alex. “I’m going to do as much performing as I can in the next few years.”

Alex’s Repertoire includes;

JS Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Balakirev, Ravel, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Chamber Music and Concerti.

Favorite Music;

Alex has a “special passion for early 20th century music because historically it was such a vivid time and so many things were happening in Europe.”  He also notes musician Krystian Zimerman, a Polish classical pianist who has been hailed as one of the finest living pianists, is his favorite musician.

Inspiration; Alex gets his inspiration from; “To be totally honest, in a lot of ways in terms of how I play and how I live,  my mom has been inspiring, due to her appreciation of the beauty of music and also the beauty of nature, it’s a big part of the way I live and see music and hear music.”

Not to be missed!

You are in luck!  Alex will be performing at The Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Avenue, August 7th, 2014 at 7:30 pm. Tickets; www.pequotlibrary.org  $20 ahead, $25 at the door.
