Stitch In Time
Fabrics and Fabrications
Antique, vintage and contemporary quilts, some stitched by hand, others by machine, made a dramatic and colorful exhibit recently at the Southport Congregational Church. Fabrics and Fabrications: A Quilt Exhibit celebrated its tenth anniversary in a big way, featuring hundreds of stunning quilts as well as lectures, demonstrations and an art exhibit. Picking up on the theme Reuse, Recycle and Rejoice, Jill Walker and Edie Faile of Fairfield led craft workshops, while Olivia Munroe, owner of the Striped Umbrella, presented a workshop for children showcasing figures made from found objects. Cecily Zerega, cofounder of the exhibit and a Fairfield resident, spoke about Civil War quilts and patterns. The weekend event kicked off with a cocktail party to benefit the Connecticut Challenge.
