From a mechanical point of view, your car may be king of the highway, but if it’s not looking its best, it’s not all it can be—particularly when it’s time for resale.
That’s where details count, and the clean-up team at BMW of Bridgeport, led by Detail Manager Chris Larson, have the skills and savvy to make surface imperfections and finish flaws on an older vehicle disappear.
Larson, who’s been in the business for 26 years and has been ranked in the top 20 car detailers in the world by the duPont Registry, got his start as a teenager, when an accident on his BMX bike required some therapy on his shoulder.
“A friend of mine advised me to polish cars to get the shoulder back in shape,” he recalls. The rest is history. Now owners of some of the world’s finest prestige vehicles—including those sold at the Bridgeport BMW dealership—get the star treatment from Chris and the six employees in his detailing entourage.
Vintage cars brought to new life by Larson have shown solid proof of his skills. A collector’s 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC, which received a full paint correction—detailed with wheels, emblems, lids and mirrors removed so as not to miss a millimeter of surface—paid back the customer handsomely, achieving the highest-ever price for the model at $730,000.
“The runner up for that model is $550,000,” says Larson. He’s justifiably proud of the work that he and his crew can do.
Every part of a vehicle can be renewed by the detailing process. Larson will bring back leather with a 24-hour treatment that replaces the pH balance and makes it supple.
“Leather is like skin,” notes Larson, “and it needs conditioning periodically.”
Among his menu of treatments are great products for gloss and scratch resistance, and techniques to fill in small scratches—a huge saving over repainting.
“We’ve even got carpet protection that will hold water off fiber,” notes Chris, who keeps up with the latest products to make cars more beautiful now, and more valuable when you sell them.
