A College Student's Primer to Living in Fairfield
Sacred Heart and Fairfield U students talk pizza, coffee shops and more
At the start of a new fall semester, freshman at Fairfield University and Sacred Heart University will be looking for good deals, especially when it comes to food. Who better than college students from Fairfield (and interns at Fairfield Living Magazine) to serve as guides to the go-to fuel-up places in Fairfield for new college students?
Breakfast gets you through those classes all day—no snoozing in lectures and recharge for those last-minute assignments before the professor walks in. Try Country Cow Deli at 2505 Black Rock Turnpike. The Bacon Egg and Cheese (BEC) is tasty and won't break the bank. The home fries are out of this world, especially on your BEC, just make sure you bring cash—it’s all they take.
Choices are good, so here are three: Village Bagels at 653 Post Road; Bagel King at 2270 Black Rock Turnpike; and Einstein Bagels at 2205 Black Rock Turnpike.
Known as a college diet staple, these are the best places to grab a slice on the go, a pie with friends, or a delivery to the dorm room. Of course, there are many, but here are four of our regulars: Pepe’s: 238 Commerce Drive, Colony Grill for thin pies, 1520 Post Road, Nauti Dolphin at 1 Carter Henry Drive, and Mike’s Pizza at 1560 Post Road.
Ice Cream/Frozen Yogurt
Smoothies, slushies, frozen yogurt, or just good old-fashioned ice-cream, here are a few pick to consider when you want to indulge your sweet tooth: Pinkberry (froyo) at 1512 Post Road, 16 Handles (froyo) at 1300 Post Road, Sunny Daes (ice cream) at 808 Post Road and 2505 Black Rock Turnpike, Cumberland Farms (89-cent slushies!) at 1101 Post Road, Robeks (smoothies) at 1983 Post Road and 2061 Black Rock Turnpike.
As soon as college student stops thinking about breakfast, his or her thoughts turn to lunch. Here are a few places to grab a bite even if you're on a budget. Firehouse Deli at 22 Reef Road, Senor Salsa at 580 Post Road, A&S Italian Fine Foods at 2079 Black Rock Turnpike, and Garden Catering (try the chicken nuggets with a secret seasoning), at 2074 Black Rock Turnpike.
Term papers, thirty-page chapter reviews, hour-long problem sets—caffeine is a college essential. Choices abound. Starbucks (if you get the app on the phone, you can create a rewards card and get free drinks on your birthdays and other special occasions) at 1740 Post Road and 2171 Black Rock Turnpike; Dunkin Donuts at 593 Post Road, 1910 Black Rock Turnpike, and 200 Tunxis Hill Road; and Las Vetas at 27 Unquowa Road.
